A rigid semipermeable membrane connects the mixture container B at 320 K, 100 bar with another piston–cylinder assembly A, which contains pure CO2 also at a temperature of 320 K but unknown pressure P (Figure 8.10). The section B consists of a mixture of 40% CO2 and 60% acetylene at 320 K. Determine µCO2 in section B. The weight in section A is adjusted such that equilibrium is reached between sections A and B (i.e., there is no flow of CO2). Determine the required pressure P in section A.
Assume cp0 = 10.08 kJ/kmole K for CO2 (or see Table A.6c) ideal mix of real gases for mixture and select the reference temperature as 273 K in estimating enthalpy and entropy of ideal gases.
